Past Pupils’ award for North Mon students

NORTH Monastery Past Pupils’ Union recently recognised three students, one from each of the schools that comprise the North Monastery CBS campus.

At a special luncheon, the students were each awarded for their school leadership and academic achievements.

The luncheon, which was sponsored by the Gurranabraher Credit Union, was held at the Clayton Hotel, and those in attendance included Councillor Damian Boylan, who was deputising for the Lord Mayor, Councillor Kieran McCarthy. Cllr Boylan is himself a past pupil of the North Monastery.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were the principals and vice principals of the three schools, Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Scoil Mathair na Síorchabhrach, and Gaelcholáiste Mhuire.

Attending too were the parents of the award-winning students, as well as members of the North Monastery PPU committee, and members of the management team from Gurranabraher Credit Union.

The students who received awards were Jack Curtin from Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Saadman Chowdhury from Mathair na Síorchabhrach, and Dónal Óg Ó Buachalla from Gaelcholáiste Mhuire.

The students were presented with their awards by former lord mayor of Cork, Michael O’Connell, who is chairman of the Gurranabraher Credit Union, and by Jim Mullins, deputy president of the North Monastery PPU.

Mr Mullins said that the PPU tudents awards lunch was a significant annual occasion that is marked as a stand-alone event by the PPU.

“The mission of the North Monastery Past Pupils Union is to be as relevant as possible to all the stakeholders associated with the schools, including students, staff, parents and past pupils”, Mr Mullins said.

“The annual PPU dinner was held recently, with a record number in attendance, and included a large number of former north monastery pupils.

“We probably have one of the most active past pupils union in the country and we believe that it is important to continuously give something back,” he added.
