The iconic ‘Welcome to Mayfield’ plaque is to be removed and replaced with more modern signage.

Independent councillor Ken O’Flynn has confirmed that the stone sign will be replaced in 2024.

He explained that the new sign will be of a “more contemporary and welcoming design”.

The councillor said that the new design would be unveiled in the coming months and encouraged people to “celebrate the milestone together as we embrace change and embrace a brighter future for Mayfield”.

He added: “I want to express my utmost gratitude to my colleagues and City Council for their hard work and dedication in making this happen.”
