There are two styles of baseball hats available, a soft baseball cap and a bump stop cap.

Bantry in West Cork is among three Garda stations in the country to test a pilot scheme of Garda uniform baseball caps.

The Garda Info account shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the hats can be worn from tomorrow (Wednesday 6th of November) in Ballinasloe Co. Galway, Terenure, Dublin and Bantry, Co. Cork.

“The pilot will include two sample caps: a soft baseball cap and a ‘bump stop’ cap”, the tweet wrote, with an accompanying image showing examples of both hats, which say GARDA in yellow block capitals.

In August of last year, it was revealed that An Garda Síochána would officially upgrade their uniform for only the third time in history.

It was announced at the time that they would wear polo shirts, two-tone soft shell and waterproof jackets, and new 'operational trousers' similar to combat trousers or cargo pants, and that they would no longer wear shirts and ties, except on formal occasions, but would continue to wear the distinctive Garda peaked cap.
