Man raises over €3,000 for Cork charity by shaving head

Enda Larkin, who was born in Dublin but has been living in Cork for the past two years, has raised over €3,000 euro for two very good causes by shaving his long hair.

His fundraiser ‘Enda's Trim for Transport to Treatment’ will support Cork charity Cancer Connect, and he will be donating his hair to The Rapunzel Foundation.

The Rapunzel Foundation collects ponytail donations to provide wigs free of charge to long term hair loss sufferers, while Cancer Connect co-ordinate transport to Cork hospitals for people requiring Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and related treatments.

Enda explained: “I have been best identified in a crowd over the last 5 years by my unruly red hair, which has made a habit of getting in the way of putting on hurling helmets and swimming under waves.

“I have decided to call enough is enough and will be donating the untamable locks to The Rapunzel Foundation, who provide wigs to long term hair loss sufferers living in Ireland.

“To maximise the available hair length to be donated, I will be shaving my head, and aim to raise funds for Cancer Connect.

“Cancer Connect do trojan work providing the community with safe, free, flexible, and confidential volunteer-based transport to access regular treatments in Cork Hospitals, helping to reduce the stress on families dealing with cancer.

“Originating in West Cork, growing demand has seen the service expand, offering friendly transfer support right across County Cork when patients need it most - all funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.”
