CORK’S favourite ‘Derry Girl’, the Aherla- born actor Siobhán McSweeney, is to return to Irish screens on Monday when she and her fellow Derry Girl, Kathy Kiera Clark, are the main course for the premiere of the second season of The Shared Table.

Siobhán, who played Sister Michael in the Emmy-Award winning series, and Kathy who won viewers over with her portrayal of madcap Aunt Sarah, will take viewers on what is described as “a culinary journey filled with authentic Italian delights” in the first episode of the Virgin Media Two series which airs at 10pm on Monday.

The series, which was filmed partly in The Anglers Restaurant in Carrigrohane, is described as a chat show with delicious food and a homage to the apparently unique Italian ritual of dining together.

Siobhán McSweeney, who added to her BAFTA win for her portrayal of Sister Michael in Derry Girls with a UK Theatre Award nomination for Best Performance in a play for her role as Winnie in Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, is thrilled to be returning to Cork for the series.

“For me the show radiates warmth,” she said.

It also helped that the series is sponsored by Italian beer company, Birra Moretti.

“Filming brought an eclectic group of people together over good food and great beer,” she said.

“And I can’t wait to hear what viewers think when our episode airs. Getting to share the table with my Derry Girls co-star and friend Kathy Kiera was the icing on the cake!”
