Several Cork writers were recognised at the third annual Irish Food Writing Awards held this week at the RDS.

More than 90 finalists attended the event from across the island of Ireland, competing for the 21 awards on offer covering Irish food and drink journalism, cookbooks, feature writing, blogging, podcasting, photography and Instagram/TikTok.

The Irish Food Writing Awards were established in 2021 by Suzanne Campbell and Paul O’Connor to recognise and celebrate the high quality of food and drink writing throughout the island of Ireland.

Suzanne Campbell said at the event: “We were overwhelmed with the amount of entries in this, our third year of the awards.

“It’s been a great experience again working with our international judges and Irish food and drink sponsor companies, without which the awards couldn’t happened.”

The awards are sponsored by a range of food, drink and hospitality businesses, including the Cork-based Glenmar Shellfish.

There were several Cork winners, including Caroline Hennessy in the Writing on Sustainability category and Joe McNamee, who took home the Restaurant Critic award.

The prestigious Cookbook of The Year Award, judged by Colman Andrews went to ‘Paradiso: Recipes and Reflections’ by Denis Cotter.

The Echo columnist Kate Ryan was a finalist in three categories; the Food Writing Award, Writing on Irish Food Producers Awards and Spirits Writing Awards.
