MORE than 90 volunteers from a Cork based IT company came out from behind their computer screens at the weekend to give a helping hand towards the establishment of Mahon’s first community garden.

The IT workers from Telus International Ireland were at Ringmahon House as part of the company’s Days of Giving volunteer event and spent a busy day installing raised beds, creating vegetable drills, planting fruit trees and other plants, painting gates, painting benches and installing a small pond to encourage biodiversity.

There was plenty to do for the Telus International contingent and there were some at the event in the Cork suburb who travelled all the way from Mayo where the company, known internationally as a digital Customer Experience(CX) innovator that designs, builds and delivers next generation solutions including AI and content moderation, also has an Irish base. They were working shoulder to shoulder with YouthReach participants, Transition Year students from Nagle Community School and Mahon Tidy Towns volunteers.

For this project, Telus International Ireland were working with Green Spaces for Health and this followed on from a previous co-operative project when, in 2021, Telus International team members built an organic community garden in Bishopstown.

The half-acre empty space in Murphy’s Farm was transformed to include raised beds to grow fruit and vegetables, a new picnic area, bee hotels and freshly planted wildflowers.

Speaking at the event, Roger Clancy, Telus International’s VP of Operations and General Manager, Ireland & France, acknowledged the work of all participants in the day’s endeavors and said it was fantastic to see his Telus International colleagues inaction as part of the company’s Days for Giving event.

“Helping the community is central to our culture at Telus International and making a meaningful impact is a priority for our team members,” he said.

“Volunteer days are an integral part of Telus International Ireland’s award-winning CSR programme.”

Globally, Telus Days of Giving events bring together team members and retirees, and their families and friends in each of the regions where Telus International operates to make a powerful positive impact in their local communities. Since 2007, Telus International team members have impacted the lives of more than 1.2 million people across the globe through volunteer activities and charitable giving.
