West Cork water-based events to raise funds for cancer charities

A water-based event for women to raise money for Breakthrough Cancer Research and Marymount Hospice will take place in Baltimore on Thursday, August 13.

Women on Water (WOW) begins with an organised sea swim, with prizes for the best dressed swimmers in pink.

Then, registration in Baltimore Sailing Club begins at 1.30pm before attendees take to the water on sailboats, yachts, powerboats and kayaks for a sea treasure hunt.

The sailing club will host food, drinks, fundraising auctions and raffles afterwards, and the evening will close with a performance by Collage in the square.

All participants are invited to wear pink, and Women on the Water t-shirts will also be on sale.

Founded in 2014 by the late Joan Collins, then Commodore of Baltimore Sailing Club, following her diagnosis with melanoma, WOW events have raised more than €100,000 for charity.

Odharnait Collins, chair of the WOW committee, said: “Women on Water is a day to celebrate friendship, remember Joan’s incredible legacy and raise vital funds for two wonderful charities.

“Whether you’re an experienced sailor or simply looking for a unique day out with friends, we’d love to welcome women from all over Cork to Baltimore for what promises to be a very special occasion.”
