LATEST: One arrested and Gardaí appealing for witnesses after man critically injured in Cork stabbing 

LATEST: A man in his early 20s has been arrested after another man was seriously injured in a stabbing in Cork city centre this evening.

The injured man, who is in his mid-twenties, is in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital following the incident on the Grand Parade. 

The man who was arrested is currently detained at a Garda station in the city. 

"Gardaí at Bridewell are currently at the scene of a serious assault that occurred on Grand Parade, Cork City this evening, Wednesday 14th June 2023 at approximately 7.30p.m," a spokesperson told The Echo. 

"One man, aged in his mid 20s, was seriously injured and has been removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"Gardaí have arrested a man, aged in his early 20s." 

They said the scene is currently preserved and investigations are ongoing.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this assault to come forward.

"Any road users and pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash cam) and were in the area of Grand Parade/Daunt Square between 7.15pm and 8pm this evening Wednesday 14th June, 2023 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bridewell Garda station on 021 494 3330, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station." 

EARLIER: A man in his twenties has been rushed to Cork University Hospital tonight after being critically injured in a stabbing incident in the city centre. 

Gardaí and members of the ambulance service were called to the scene on Grand Parade at approximately 7.30pm. 

The man was treated by medics before being rushed to hospital where he is described as being in a critical condition. 

Gardaí remain at the scene. Part of the street has been cordoned off and a full technical examination is expected to take place. 

"Gardaí are currently at scene of a serious assault that occurred at Grand Parade, Cork City this evening," a spokesperson told The Echo. 

"One man, aged in his mid 20s was seriously injured and has been removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition." 

They said investigations are ongoing. 

EARLIER: A man has been seriously injured in a stabbing incident in Cork city centre this evening. 

Gardaí and members of the ambulance service are at the scene close to the Centra on Grand Parade, where the man is receiving treatment for what are understood to be serious injuries, before being taken to hospital. 

Part of the street has been cordoned off and a full technical examination is expected to take place.
