THE long-awaited revamp of The Raven is finally complete and the new-look bar will open to the public tomorrow.

Owner Tom O’Riordan has been involved in the running of the staple Cork bar since 1999, but it is only now he will be opening the doors of the revamped venue as his very own.

Mr O’Riordan said the new look can be described as “Shabby Chic Art Decor.” 

“We did our research in London and the guy who did the design is Don Meaney from Kinsale.” 

The newly renovated bar will now be serving wholesome pub grub made with locally sourced ingredients.

“We are a bar with food, more than a restaurant, but we have put a lot of thought into our menu and the ingredients we use.

“We are very much focused on locally sourced material.”

Mr O’Riordan said he was delighted to be opening the doors of The Raven this Thursday at around 5pm.

“It is a major relief to finally open. I have been involved in The Raven since 1999 and I am delighted to still be involved in it.

“It is a huge opportunity, I think it is a fabulous bar and people have fantastic memories of it from the late 90s into the 2000s.

“As well as that it is in a great location. North Main Street, South Main Street, it is a great area. I genuinely believe it is on the up and up. 

“It has gone through a very rough few years with investment, but there are a number of really good pubs here now including Bricklane, Vicarstown and The Castle.”

Mr O’Riordan said he would be serving his own brand of gin, Kinsale Gin, in The Raven along with The Rising Son’s beer and a number of other high-quality products.

Although the bar will be opening on Thursday the official launch is likely to not happen until the New Year.

“We might do something in December, but more than likely it will be January before we have a launch.”
