The extent of the fire damage at The Commons Inn Hotel is still being assessed, but photos released by the Cork City Fire Brigade show substantial repairs are needed to the roof and the back of the building.

Pictures posted on the Cork City Fire Brigade Facebook page, show that a large piece of the roof has fallen in and there is substantial water and smoke damage to the inside of the building, visible through the roof.

Three hundred people off a cruise liner and a funeral reception had to be evacuated from the hotel when the fire was discovered just before 1pm yesterday afternoon.

Seven units of the Fire Brigade attended to the blaze, which was brought under control by 3pm and was fully extinguished by 5pm.

A statement from the hotel said they would be awaiting further assessment before deciding when they would reopen the business.

Cork City Fire Brigade thanks the ESB and An Garda Siochana for their help yesterday.
