Stuck behind a desk? There is an amazing job available in Cork right now

Charles Fort, Kinsale.

Fancy escaping the rat race and taking over a job that has been an important role in its location for centuries?

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is currently accepting applications for a role that will sound like a dream to many office-bound workers counting down the hours until the weekend.

The role? Craft Stonemason and Stonecutter, to be based at Charles Fort, Kinsale, Co. Cork.

That’s right. Not only does the successful candidate get to work in a fulfilling, creative role, they will also have a historic 17th century bastion fort as their workplace.

Full disclosure, the role is only based at Charles Fort - the stonemason will also be expected to travel to other areas of the district.

But given that other properties under the control of the OPW National Monuments Service in the region include Barryscourt Castle, Mallow Castle and the Rock of Cashel, that doesn’t seem like much of a hardship.

The pay is not bad either - between €643.52 and €790.78 per week, depending on experience and whether the candidate is an existing civil servant.

Unfortunately, I have bad news for anyone considering a change of career - the position is only open to qualified and experienced candidates with an advanced certificate in Craft Stonecutting and Stonemasonry or Craft Brick and Stonelaying or equivalent.

Oh well, we can dream.

For anyone who does meet the requirements, you have until September 12 to apply, get full details at www.opw.ie
