UNIVERSITY College Cork has been granted planning permission to build a new home for its Dental School in Curraheen.
The proposed five-storey building is designed to provide dental health services and clinical teaching spaces for dental students along with education and support facilities, research labs and innovation spaces, said UCC.
A UCC spokesperson said the building “will provide a welcoming and comfortable experience for patients, a creative learning environment for students and a positive working environment for staff”.
UCC hopes construction will start in summer 2020 and be completed over two phases by early 2022.
Cork University Dental School & Hospital (CUDSH) is presently located on the Cork University Hospital campus.
The new building will be located on UCC’s lands in the Cork Science and Innovation Park (CSIP) at Curraheen.
“The proposed location is accessible by public transport, and car parking will be provided. UCC will work closely with its staff and future patients to address any possible concerns,” added the spokesperson.
