The woman in her 30’s, who was arrested yesterday morning in relation to the murder investigation of two-year-old Santina Cawley, has been released without charge.

A Garda spokesperson said that a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations remain ongoing.

Santina Cawley was found Friday morning in a critical condition in an apartment in the Elderwood complex on Boreenmanna Road.

The toddler was rushed to the hospital at 5.30am, but sadly lost her young life that morning.

The child’s father and her father’s partner were in the apartment with Santina. The child’s mother was not there at the time.

Thirty Garda personnel, including forensic experts and detectives have been working on the case since the investigation was upgraded to murder on Saturday morning, following a post mortem.

The post mortem was carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster and the results were not released for operational reasons.

No funeral arrangements have yet been announced for the toddler whose body remains at Cork University Hospital and the body is likely to be returned to the family in the coming days.
