The Health and Safety Authority is investigating.

A man in his sixties died in a farmyard accident in east Cork today.

It's believed he was carrying out repair work on a trailer at a yard in Whitegate when the accident occurred at around 4.30pm.

He was found injured by workmates and was pronounced dead at the scene soon afterward.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are to begin separate investigations into the death, as is standard procedure.

Health and Safety Authority inspectors have visited the scene to begin investigations.

In a statement, Gardaí in Midleton said they were investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death.

"The alarm was raised shortly after 4pm when the man was discovered by co-workers with serious injuries at a farmyard in Ardnabourkey.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"The local coroner was notified and the services of the State Pathologist and HSA have been requested. The scene is currently preserved pending the arrival of the State Pathologist and for a full technical examination. Enquiries are ongoing."
