Cork GAA: Ballinlough will be buzzing as Seandún hurling and football group format throws in

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Seandún Division and it’s going to get even busier from next Friday night.

Their championships get underway and games continue more or less every night and weekend from then until next October.

Last year the division took the decision to follow the County Board’s way of having groups and it proved very successful as it gave teams at the various grades more games.

The same format will be used this year, and it has been expanded to take in the AOS Security JCFC as well.

Whitechurch are the holders of the AOS Security Junior A hurling championship title and they are in a tough group as they start the defence of their crown.

They will face Glen Rovers, Passage and Douglas to qualify for the knockout stages.

Na Piarsaigh, who were beaten by Whitechurch after a replay, are in a group with St Vincent’s, Blackrock and White’s Cross.

The top two from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with the format for the knockout stages of the other championships to be decided in the coming weeks.

Nemo are also in a tough group as they bid to defend their Junior A football title, as they take on Bishopstown and St Michael’s.

Ballyphehane, who won the Junior B title last year, are in with Mayfield, Passage and Glanmire, as they move up a grade.

The other group sees Whitechurch, Douglas and White’s Cross face off.

Games start this Friday night with Mayfield taking on Passage in the AOS Security JAFC at 7pm at Ballinlough.

That is followed by Glanmire and Ballyphehane on Saturday at 7pm.

Sunday sees four games being played as Whitechurch face Douglas, 10.45am in the JAFC. This is followed by Na Piarsaigh v Brian Dillons in the JBFC at 12.30pm.

Games continue at 4.45pm with Rathpeacon up against St Finbarr’s in the JBFC and it rounds off with Passage against Glanmire in the same competition at 6pm.

Games will then continue week nights as well as weekends, with games being played at Ballinlough.

Mick Buckley, chairman of Seandun thanked all involved for their work in putting the championship programme together as well as Jess O’Sullivan of AOS Security, sponsors of the championships.

Group 1: Whitechurch, Glen Rovers, Passage and Douglas.

Group 2: Na Piarsaigh, St Vincent’s, Blackrock, and White’s Cross.

AOS Security Junior A Football Championship 

Group 1: Mayfield, Passage, Glanmire, and Ballyphehane.

Group 2: Whitechurch, Douglas, and White’s Cross.

Group 3: Nemo Rangers, Bishopstown, and St Michael’s.
