Woman airlifted to hospital after serious crash on N20

EMERGENCY services are attending the scene of a serious crash just south of Mallow.

A woman has been airlifted to Cork University Hospital.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene of a road traffic collision and units from mallow Fire Brigade and Kanturk Fire Brigade have been called to the incident which happened just after 3.30pm.

The incident took place at Quartertown, just 1km from Mallow.

The N20 is closed both ways south of Mallow, near the Mourneabbey turn-off.

In a separate incident, Gardaí are investigating the details behind how a man in his 30s was hospitalised after a suspected hit-and-run in East Cork. A man in his 20s has been arrested.

A statement from the Garda Press Office said: "Gardaí are investigating as suspected endangerment an incident in Whitegate Village in East Cork. The incident occurred shortly after 1.30pm today (1/12/2019). It’s understood a man in his 30s was struck by a vehicle during a dispute involving a second male. The injured man was taken by ambulance to CUH, his injures are not thought to be life threatening. A man in his 20s has since been arrested by Gardaí and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Cobh Garda Station. Enquiries are ongoing."
