Cork man who concealed crack cocaine in his mouth fined €300

Crack cocaine was concealed by a man in his mouth when gardaí approached him to carry out a search.

Stephen Callis, aged 34, with an address at Shournagh Grove, Deanrock Estate, Togher, Cork, pleaded guilty to having the cocaine in his possession for his own use.

Sergeant David Fleming said the incident occurred at Drinan Street, Cork, on April 9, 2025.

At 10.30am that morning, Garda Laura O’Connor encountered the defendant and found him to be agitated and nervous.

As she approached, he appeared to conceal something in his mouth. When directed, he took it out of his mouth. It turned out to be crack cocaine with a street value of €25.

Sergeant Fleming said Stephen Callis had 15 previous convictions under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Judge David Waters imposed a €300 fine for possession of the cocaine, or three days in prison in default of payment.
