A former Christian Brother charged with indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy at the North Monastery secondary school in Cork in 1981 confessed to the crime today.

Edward Bryan, 65, of Dugort, Achill Island, County Mayo, was arraigned at Cork Circuit Criminal Court today.

He replied, ‘Guilty’, to the single charge of indecent assault committed between November 1 and December 31 1981.

Brendan Kelly, defence barrister, said the defence was ready to proceed to sentence.

Prosecution barrister, Jane Hyland, said a victim impact statement would have to be prepared and would take at least a week to organise.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin adjourned sentencing of Bryan until February 18.

The defendant was remanded on bail until then.
