Firefighters battle city centre fire

Cork city firefighters were combatting a fire at a building in the city centre this evening.

Emergency services were alerted to a fire at a building off Grand Parade at around 5.30pm.

Fire services confirmed to The Echo that the blaze was relatively small and was under control within minutes of arrival.

Cork City Fire Brigade also responded to reports of a house fire in Ballyphehane this evening.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 4.20pm and two units of the fire brigade rushed to the scene.

The blaze was brought under control and the two units had returned to the station by around 5.30pm.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
