West Cork village in mourning after death of young woman

A YOUNG woman with links to Ballinascarthy has been killed in an accident in Tanzania.

Sonia De Silva McCarthy, who was raised in Wembley in London but whose father hails from Ballinascarthy, died last Sunday during a trip to the African country.

She is survived by her parents, two sisters, one brother and grandparents.

A book of condolences will be opened in the community hall in Ballinascarthy on Saturday between 1pm and 6pm.

Her funeral will take place in London, and a memorial Mass will take place in West Cork.

Her death came just three days after the murder of Ballinascarthy man Cameron Blair on Bandon Road in Cork city a week ago.
