Updated at 5.20pm:

Gardaí have arrested two juvenile males in their late teens in relation to a suspected theft incident at a petrol station in the Glenville area today.

Shortly after 11.30am, Gardaí in Fermoy received a report of a car that had driven off without paying for petrol.

The car was also involved in a collision in the area following the suspected theft.

Two males fled the scene and a search of the area was carried out by the Roads Policing and Southern Region Dog Units.

A sighting of the two suspects was reported to Fermoy Garda Station after members of the public had seen an appeal for information on the Garda Southern Region Facebook page.

The two males are currently detained at Fermoy Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

EARLIER:

Two males have become the subject of a Garda search assisted by the search dog Lazer and his handler after leaving a petrol station without paying for their fuel and failing to stop for Gardaí at around lunchtime today.

The pair then drove into a delivery van and when the two men were flagged to pull over by Gardaí following the hit and run, instead of facing the force they decided to high tail it through the fields.

The car was abandoned near Glenville Village and Gardaí are searching for the two individuals with great interest.

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the two males in the ongoing search, one of whom is wearing a grey hoodie and the other, a red jacket.

Posting on Facebook at 2pm today, the Gardaí said: “If you see any suspicious activity, don’t post it here, call 112/999 immediately, don’t assume someone else will.

“Any other good leads that help us make a collar would be welcome at Fermoy Tel. 025 82100.”
