The decision, made in response to the outbreak of the Covid19 (coronavirus), will affect passengers due to travel from Tuesday, March 17 until Wednesday, April 8.

Italy is currently experiencing one of the worst outbreaks of the virus in Europe, with in excess of 2,000 confirmed cases and over 52 deaths.

In a statement, the airline said that all affected passengers have been contacted via email and text and given the option of a refund, or to change their flights.

"All impacted customers have been notified by email and SMS and given the option to request a refund, rebook or re-route their journey," they said.

Cork Airport will not be affected by these cancellations as there are no direct flights from Cork Airport to the affected areas of Italy at this time of the year.

Ryanair operates summer seasonal routes to Milan and Naples, and Volotea fly to Verona.
