An appeal by Bus Eireann staff in Cork to ‘fill a bus with food’ for Cork Penny Dinners has proved a huge success with workers already having filled three buses with goods to help create food hampers for vulnerable and older people.

The campaign was first launched just over a week ago, with Bus Eireann staff appealing to people who were near the Capwell Bus depot to donate items to the appeal.

Within days two buses had been filled with food donations, and Bus Eireann says a third bus has now also delivered food to St Vincent’s Hurling and Football Club where its staff and volunteers are preparing food hampers for people.

Bus Eireann says anyone wishing to help with the food hampers, and who is in a position to do so, can drop food to their garage in Capwell up until tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29th).

Suitable items include pasta sauce, pasta, soups, peas, beans, spaghetti, cereal, coffee, tea, sugar, cream crackers and biscuits.
