THE Lexus car involved in last week’s serious crash on Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny had been stolen in the days before the incident.

Gardaí have confirmed the vehicle was stolen from the Farranree area before being in a collision on Wednesday night, May 27, on Harbour View Road with a car being driven by a pizza delivery driver.

Four youths who were in the Lexus fled from the scene.

Garda investigations are continuing but no arrests have been made, according to a spokesman.

The delivery driver was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Now, the residents of Harbour View Road want to get traffic calming measures in place on the road.

Last week’s crash came just over three months after 16-year-old Kimberly O’Connor died on February 20 when the car in which she was travelling collided with a wall near her home, and close to last week’s crash site.

This weekend, residents will be surveyed in a joint initiative by Harbour View Road residents association and the IMPACT community group on what measures they want to see introduced to slow down traffic on the road.

Don O’Sullivan of the residents association said: “We are now drawing up the survey on what locals would like to see happen.’’

Last week, Kimberly O’Connor’s mother Jennifer Haynes and aunt Valerie Haynes spoke out, saying there is a need for traffic calming measures on the road.

A spokeswoman for Cork City Council said: ‘’There are no plans to put traffic calming measures in. Cork City Council is aware of road safety challenges in the area and is happy to engage with the gardaí if needs be.’’
