Three months in jail for smashing car window in Cork housing estate

A three-month jail term was imposed on a young man who smashed a window of a car parked at Avonmore Park in Mayfield.

Garda Laura O’Connor arrived at the scene of the reported incident and found 22-year-old Jack McCarthy of 109 Ard Bhaile, Mayfield, in the area.

That was just before midnight on September 29 2018. Today at Cork District Court, Jack McCarthy pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to the car at Avonmore Park and being intoxicated and a danger to himself or others at the time.

When McCarthy was found he was highly intoxicated and had glass cuts to his hands.

The criminal damage cost €200 to repair.

Frank Buttimer, solicitor, said of McCarthy, “He regrets this offence. He was intoxicated on the occasion.

“He apologised to the injured party but he has no compensation and no prospect of gathering it.” Judge Kelleher imposed the three-month jail term on the criminal damage charge and said he could do a concurrent five days in prison for being drunk and a source of danger.
