Criminal investigation underway after Doneraile man found dead in Killarney

UPDATE: A criminal investigation is continuing into the unexplained death of a Cork man, Darragh Sheehan (26), that occurred on Saturday night outside The Gleneagle Hotel on the Muckross Road in Killarney, County Kerry.

A post-mortem has since been completed, the results of which will not be released for operational purposes, gardai say.

EARLIER: The man found dead in Kerry on Saturday night has been named locally as Darragh Sheehan (26) from Doneraile in North Cork.

Emergency services responded to a call in Killarney at around 11.40pm and Mr Sheehan was found unconscious outside the Gleneagle Hotel on Muckross Road.

He was pronounced dead a short time later and gardaí are investigating Mr Sheehan’s body was removed to University Hospital Kerry where a post mortem is scheduled to be completed.

This post mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

Local County Councillor Frank O’Flynn (FF) said Doneraile is in shock and mourning over the incident.

“The Sheehan family is well known and well-liked in the Doneraile area,” he said.

“The whole community is in shock at this very, very sad incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,” he added.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this matter to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the Muckross Road area between 11pm and 11:45pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.
