Cork scam warning: Email targeting those interested in Restart Grants

Staff at the Local Authority said they were aware of a fraudulent email targeting members of the public who might be accessing the restart grants system.

Cork County Council is warning members of the public about a possible scam involving the Restart Grant scheme.

The scheme gives grants to businesses to help them reopen their premises and get back to work following Covid-19 restrictions.

Posting on Facebook, staff at the Local Authority said they were aware of a fraudulent email targeting members of the public who might be interested in applying to or have already applied to the scheme.

The Council encouraged people to delete the email immediately if received.

Cork County Council was made aware of the scam by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), who were alerted by the Department of Business.

The fraudulent email comes from no-reply@dbei.gov.ie and outlines a 30% top-up on to the Restart Grant to assist companies during the three weeks of additional restrictions.

Business owners are invited to fill out a form and asked to submit it to the false account purporting to be from the Department of Business.

Businesses are advised to be vigilant in relation to the scam.
