Cork filmmaker highlights solidarity during lockdown in a moving film narrated by James Leonard

"Always together, never apart" - that's the message of hope in a new short film highlighting all the ways Cork has pulled together during the coronavirus pandemic.

In This Together, directed and produced by Daniel Corcoran of Rollover Films, took two weeks to put together and features photos and footage of community spirit burning bright in Cork.

"The goal was very straightforward, I wanted to highlight some of the incredible work that was being done in the city by the people on the frontline," Daniel explained.

"The whole objective with this is to shine a ray of light on the outstanding work being done in these unprecedented times," he continued.

The film also features photographs by The Echo and Irish Examiner photographer, Larry Cummins, who Daniel thanked for contributing "amazing photos to the project".

Narrating the two-minute film is Cork's James Leonard, who has weathered dark days in the past and triumphed over his struggles.

Earlier this year, James appeared on The Tommy Tiernan Show, speaking openly about his experience of drug abuse.

"James's own story of overcoming addiction and triumphing over adversity is truly remarkable.

"I hope his message will resonate with viewers and give some much-needed positivity," Daniel said.

In the short film, James speaks about the importance of having hope for the future.

"In these challenging times, we have never felt so apart. Our beautiful city is empty and quiet.

"Alone with our thoughts, darkness can appear.

"Now, more than ever, we need to look forward and believe in a better tomorrow," he says.

"Together we can get through these difficult times and shine a light of hope on people bringing them strength for a better tomorrow."
