Cork Gogglebox couple have announced their engagement

A Cork couple who are one of the favourites on Irish television have announced their engagement.

The Gogglebox Ireland family will have to dust off their good hats and get ready for a big day out as Dawn and Dale announce their plans to marry.

Dawn and Dale are regulars on the show on Virgin Media show.

On a recent trip to Connemara, Dawn popped the big question to Dale while the couple were out for a romantic stroll on the Atlantic coast.

Speaking on the engagement, Dawn said; “I’d planned to propose for a long time but wanted to wait for the perfect opportunity... and for Dale to be caught off guard."

"I asked Dale’s dad for his blessing beforehand and he laughed and said he’d gladly let me take her off his hands! Felt like my heart was going to explode with excitement on the day of it."

After initially getting very emotional, Dale said yes.

"When she did ask me I went into total shock. For me, marriage has always been a big deal, especially after 2015's historical vote. I always hoped we’d get married but now I actually can’t believe it."

The couple, who have been together for eight years were so happy they cried ‘ugly tears’ and then enjoyed the following few days in Connemara in their little ‘bubble’.

They have no wedding plans yet and have just been swept up in telling their loved ones the news. However, Dale does say she's "looking forward to annoying Dawn with all the planning."

Dawn and Dale met eight years ago while studying the same course at Cork Institute of Technology. They now both work together in retail.

Both girls are from large Cork families but, while Dale is from the city, Dawn is a country girl.

Dale loves anything creative - she runs a make-up video blog and is obsessed with beauty products, homewares and decorating.

Dawn is more into sports and, while she used to play Camogie and Soccer, these days she prefers to watch sports on TV.

Dawn loves cooking and cookery shows. Dale can’t cook but loves Bake Off - she’s happy to let Dawn do all the work in the kitchen and enjoy the end results.

They watch game shows together and kill each other over the answers but there are no arguments over home improvement shows like Grand Designs and Room to Improve. Their favourite presenter is Graham Norton with Morgan Freeman and Will Smith being their favourite actors.

The final episode in the current series of Gogglebox Ireland airs tomorrow night at 9pm on Virgin Media One
