CUH has highest number of patients waiting for beds

Cork University Hospital (CUH) has the highest number of patients in the country waiting for beds at its emergency department again today.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s (INMOs) Trolley Watch report, 36 patients were waiting for beds at the hospital this morning, down from 39 on Tuesday. 

Yesterday, management at the hospital appealed to people to contact their GP in the first instance and explore all other options available to them before attending the emergency department if their needs are not urgent.

“Cork University Hospital (CUH) Emergency Department has been exceptionally busy in recent days,” a statement from the hospital said.

“Patient care is paramount in CUH and this situation is being treated as a priority by Hospital Management who have taken steps to address this issue.

“Hospital Management wishes to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all staff during this very busy time,” it added.

Elsewhere in Cork, eight people were waiting for beds at the Mercy University Hospital.

Nationally, 210 admitted patients were waiting for beds this morning.
