HEAD TO HEAD: Cork and Limerick face off in the Munster hurling final on Sunday

A year ago, Cork hurlers thwarted a bid by Limerick to win seven Munster finals in a row when they defeated them in a dramatic, pulsating final.

The two giants of the game go head to head in this year’s Munster final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday at 2pm, with the Rebels seeking a record 56th title. The match is live on RTÉ2.

Meanwhile, the Leinster Hurling final between Dublin and Galway is on RTÉ2 on Saturday at 6pm, after the Dubs beat Kilkenny in the capital for the first time since the 1940s. They are seeking just their second title since 1961, while Galway will aim for just their fourth title overall.

Earlier that day, Carlow v Laois in the Joe McDonagh Cup Final is on RTÉ2 at 3.45pm.

Elsewhere on the sporting front, the 2026 FIFA World Cup starts on Thursday, June 11.

The tournament is being hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, and the opening game between Mexico and South Africa kicks off at 8pm Irish time, after the opening ceremony.

The tournament is being broadcast live on RTÉ and also on BBC and ITV.

Roy Keane fans can see the Cork man hold forth as one of the pundits on ITV, alongside his Sky colleague Gary Neville and former England striker Ian Wright.

Pundits for the BBC include Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Micah Richards, Joe Hart, and Steph Houghton, with an international edge added by Olivier Giroud, Gael Clichy, César Azpilicueta, and the former Spurs boss Thomas Frank.

The second game between South Korea and Czechia is on RTÉ2 in the early hours of Friday, June 12, at 3am, before co-hosts Canada play Bosnia Herzegovina that day at 8pm.

Ireland’s women also have a World Cup Qualifier, away to France on Tuesday, which is live on RTÉ2 at 8pm.

To tie in with the feast of soccer, Total Football is returning for a second series on RTÉ2 on Tuesday at 5.30pm.

The eight-part series, presented by Aisling O’Reilly and DavidMC, aims to give viewers an exclusive VIP pass to the heart of the football world, setting challenges with celebrity guests and influencers along the way.

The second episode on Thursday is in Cork to meet the amazing young players from Ringmahon Rangers FC, former home to Premier League keeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
