Jessie Buckley is a hot favourite to win the best actress Oscar on Sunday night

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

Will Killarney actress Jessie Buckley have greatness thrust upon her when the Oscars take place in the U.S on Sunday night? If so, that quote by William Shakespeare will be apt...

Buckley, 36, is in line to make Irish film history after being nominated in the best actress category for her role in Hamnet, where she plays the Bard’s wife.

She is a red-hot tip to win the prize and become the first Irish woman to win in that prestigious category.

If you fancy cheering her on (and having a peek at her dress and hearing her emotional speech) then you can follow live coverage of the ceremony at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on RTÉ2 on Sunday from 11pm.

If you can’t afford to lose a night’s sleep, you can catch the highlights show on RTÉ2 on Monday at 9.30pm.

Irish interest will also focus on production company Element Pictures, which won four nominations for its film Bugonia, including best picture, while Coleraine-born Maggie O’Farrell was nominated for best screenplay for Hamnet.

Dubliner Richard Baneham is up in the visual effects category for his work on Avatar: Fire And Ash, and Blue Moon, made by Irish production company Wild Atlantic Pictures, was nominated in two categories, best original screenplay and best actor for Ethan Hawke.
