At just four months old, baby Shea is about to have an operation to correct his cleft lip.

We see how he fares in the next episode of documentary series Any Given Day: Cork University Hospitalon RTÉ1 on Wednesday at 9.35pm, as his anxious mother Lorraine O’Sullivan describes her emotions.

The series follows staff shifts and patient journeys across the Cork hospital, and also in the episode, Patricia is rushed to CUH by ambulance, critically ill and struggling to breathe. She needs a special pressure mask to force oxygen into her lungs and keep her airways functioning. The Emergency Department team’s first job is to stabilise her, then try to find the cause of her acute breathing problems.

Peter has a large aortic aneurysm that requires surgery before it bursts, which would likely prove fatal. The surgical team, led by Consultant Vascular Surgeon Greg Fulton, allow young surgeons in training to attend, with one executing a critical part of the op.

Meanwhile, Sue has stage 4 ovarian cancer - her second diagnosis of the disease. Consultant Oncologist Dearbhaile Collins has identified a new drug that could potentially help her.
