A LEAP INTO THE UNKNOWN: Ireland launch their 2026 Six Nations Championship campaign against favourites France in Paris next Thursday

The years of dominance by Ireland in the Six Nations Championship may be over for now - but fans can still expect some thrilling matches when the 2026 version kicks off next week.

Ireland launches the annual rugby tournament with a tough trip to Paris on Thursday at 8.10pm to play favourites and holders France. It’s live on Virgin Media 1 and ITV.

Ireland, France, and England all lost one game apiece as last season’s championship went down to the wire, and Andy Farrell’s men will have their work cut out as they try to face down Les Bleus on their own turf.

On the GAA front, there is live coverage of Galway v Cork in the Allianz Hurling League on TG4 today at 7pm.

Donegal v Kerry in Round 2 of Division 1 in the Allianz Football League is on the channel tomorrow from 1pm.

Sports fans can also enjoy the spectacle of the Winter Olympics, which begins in Italy next Friday.

The opening ceremony will be on BBC2 at 6.30pm,headed by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and pop diva Mariah Carey at Milan’s San Siro stadium. You can see coverage of the 16 days of action on BBC.

Irish athletes are expected to take part in the male and female alpine skiing, as well as in the cross country skiing.

Among the international athletes tipped to become stars at the Games is 19-year-old British snowboard sensation Mia Brookes - the youngest world champion in history.

Meanwhile, the live weekend Premier League soccer action kicks off with Leeds United v league leaders Arsenal on Premier Sports today at 3pm.

The London derby between Chelsea and West Ham is on Sky at 5.30pm, followed by Liverpool v Newcastle United on TNT Sports 1 at 8pm.

There are three games to choose from on Sky at 2pm tomorrow - Aston Villa v Brentford, Manchester United v Fulham, and Nottingham Forest v Crystal Palace, before the match between Tottenham and Manchester City kicks off at 4pm.

Two promoted teams, Sunderland and Burnley, meet in the live Sky Monday game at 8pm, while Leeds United v Nottingham Forest is live on the channel next Friday at 8pm.

The second legs of the Carabao Cup semi-finals also take place next week.

Arsenal defend a 3-2 first leg lead over Chelsea at the Emirates on Sky on Tuesday at 8pm, while Manchester City have a 2-0 lead over holders Newcastle United when they meet at the Etihad live on Sky at 8pm on Wednesday.
