Cork couple Katlyn Buckley and Alan Devereaux dreamed of tying the knot in the sunshine, and as luck had it, the weather was on their side when they were wed in July.

Katlyn, from Farranree, and Alan, from Hollyhill, first met 12 years ago when they were just teens.

Love blossomed, and Alan popped the question to Katlyn in the sun-soaked setting of Puerto Rico.

“The proposal was magical, all I could have dreamed of and more,” recalled Katlyn.

The Cork couple first met when Katlyn was just 15 and Alan was 17, after being introduced through mutual friends.

The couple had planned a trip to New York and Las Vegas, but the pandemic put a halt to their travels there. Instead they travelled to Puerto Rico. “He had had the ring since May, and our friends said they would come along for the holiday. We flew out two days before them, and they came and had the ring with them. We went to the beach and Alan proposed on the beach front - it was fantastic,” said Katlyn.

The couple said ‘I do’ at the Rochestown Park Hotel on July 10.

“We wanted an outdoor wedding and that is exactly what we got... the weather was in the high 20s with the sun splitting the stones,” said Katlyn.

Carol Cotter, from Spiritual Ceremonies, led their wedding ceremony in the garden. Music was by Willow Buckley, who is the bride’s cousin.

The bride sourced her gown from Wed2B in Dublin. Hair and make-up was by Nic’s Pin Ups in Hollyhill. Flowers were by Tracey from Florist4u. The groom’s suit was from Suits.ie on Paul Street.

Photos on the day were by Barry and Sheenagh from Bismark, while the wedding video was by Anthony Flemming Productions.

The couple were supported on the day by their family and friends, including Katlyn’s mother Fiona, father Anthony, and grandmother Rose; Alan’s mother Melissa, and their bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, and junior groomsman.

After the ceremony, the couple held a reception for their guests at the hotel, with plenty of fun and games.

Guests enjoyed the roulette table, giant Jenga, giant dominoes, pitch and putt, and a bean bag toss at the reception. The games continued into the meal, where friends and family joined in a game of Mr & Mrs, music bingo, and a game of ‘Bring Me’, which the couple likened to ‘musical chairs mixed with a treasure hunt’.

“It was fantastic, everyone got involved and had a great time,” the couple said.

That evening, the Boogie Band ensured the dance floor was never empty, while DJ Dave Ahern kept the party going late into the night.
