Tell us about yourself;

I’m a session musician based in London. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been playing drums for Cian Ducrot, Pa Sheehy and many others. Recently I’ve started releasing my own music under the pseudonym Culture Kid. My debut single New Found Evil came out on October 25 and is available on all streaming platforms

Where were you born?

Although I am Irish, I was born in London.

Where do you live?

I recently moved back to London and am living with my partner, around the corner from where I was born! It’s been a nice full circle.

Best friend?

My partner Lisa. She’s absolutely hilarious, caring and full of life.

Earliest childhood memory?

Harmonising to Heavenly by Harry Connick Jr. with my mum and my brother. We still sing it together at most family gatherings.

Person you most admire?

Any of The Beatles.

Favourite TV programme?

We’ve been binge-watching the US Office lately. So good!

Favourite radio show?

When I was living in Ireland, Ed Smith on Today FM was always a go-to. He always has the indie bangers blasting!

Your signature dish if cooking?

I’ve been cooking up some reeeeal tasty tunes lately.

Favourite restaurant?

In Cork? Cafe Paradiso is probably right up there. And that’s coming from a meat-eater!

Last book you read?

I started reading The Artist’s Way recently. I’m not much of a reader, but I’ve been applying some of the techniques in the book and have found it to be really helpful with creativity.

Best book you read?

Songwriters On Songwriting. It’s a really good insight into how the greats did it!

Last album/CD/download you bought?

Revelation, by Leif Vollebeck.

Favourite song?

Hmm... currently, let’s say Favourite by Fontaines DC. The new album is a cracker!

One person you would like to see in concert?

I’ve got to be honest, I’m pretty bad at going to concerts. I once fell asleep at a Radiohead concert and also at John Mayer. So if you’re going, maybe don’t bring me!

Do you have a pet?

Nope. But used to have a three-legged dog called Shady.

Morning person or night owl?

I’ve been a night owl most of my life. But I find myself drifting off to sleep a lot earlier these days.

Your proudest moment?

I played Musgrave Park with Cian Ducrot during the summer. It’s probably the biggest show I’ve played. I studied music down the road in CSN, so it was another quite surreal full circle moment.

Spendthrift or saver?

I would say spendthrift, but my partner is teaching me the ways! I’m learning!

Name one thing you would improve in your area in which you live?

In London? Better Guinness!

What makes you happy?

I visited home recently to play some gigs with the lads. We got up at 7am on the Saturday morning for a sea swim and sauna - followed by a coffee in Some Dose. That most definitely made me happy.

How would you like to be remembered?

Just for being sound. And if the art I make left a mark, that’d be pretty cool too.

What else are you up to at the moment?

I’m always writing. I have a lot of new music that I’ve been working on that I will be releasing throughout the next year. The plan is to eventually release an album, late ’25.

New Found Evil is on all streaming platforms. You can also find Culture Kid on Instagram @_culturekid_ and TikTok @culture.kid.
