A CORK couple who used 3D house modelling software to self-build their dream house appear on the next episode of Home Of The Year on RTÉ1 on Tuesday, March 5, at 8.30pm.

Aoife Culliton and Kristian Fisher live in their self-build home, which they completed in 2022, with their two young children.

The couple had always wanted to build their own home and after finding their site, they started the process, using the 3D design software and getting guidance along the way from Kristian’s dad, David, who is in the building industry.

Aoife and Kristian were involved in every aspect of the process and describe their style as modern industrial, which is reflected in the black steel trims and warm wood accents throughout their home.

They love the individuality and uniqueness of their property, especially the mezzanine area, and love that it has great open plan living but still maintains places to retreat to if you need some peace and quiet.

The Cork property will be assessed by judges Hugh Wallace, Sara Cosgrove, and Amanda Bone, up against houses a 1930s renovated bungalow in Dublin and an historic Georgian Rectory in Derry.

The Dublin property is owned by Yann Leroy and Betty Lavy, who live there with their teenage son.

They bought the property in 2021 and set about fully refurnishing the interior and exterior.

The couple have a passion for interior design and have created a luxury feel with black and gold finishes throughout. They believe the home is a testament to their personal style and creativity.

They love the unique style throughout the home and the functionality of each area and are proud of the level of detail they’ve achieved throughout the bungalow.

The Rectory in Derry is owned by Kieran and Olivia McDaid, Derry, where they live with their young daughter and dog.

It was built in 1774 and used by the Church of Ireland. When the couple bought it in 2020, theywere delighted to find it in relatively good condition. They replaced some flooring ceilings on the ground floor and breathed new life into the interior.

Olivia and Kieran were heavily inspired by their travels and filled their family home with an eclectic mix of period pieces and items from abroad. They love the architecture, period features and high ceilings.

The winning property will go into the final alongside the Cork former schoolhouse that won the first episode of the series.
