Four fab Cork homes with decent price tag

Bawnmore, near Macroom, in County Cork is a three-bed house for sale at €295,000.

LAST week, I highlighted four doer-upper homes currently on the market in Cork. Today, I have found four on sale in Cork with the work already done !

These houses have every modern convenience, while retaining old-world charm and classic facades. All at a very reasonable price, I reckon!

1. 53, Commons Road, Blackpool, €150,000

A little gem in Blackpool, for me this would make a perfect first time buy, perhaps for a single person eager to get on the property ladder.

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom house is just off the main thoroughfare in Blackpool, but within shouting distance of everything!

53, Commons Road, Blackpool, is a little gem with a modern interior, on sale for €150,000.

It’s a three-minute stroll to the shopping centre, with no steps or hills to negotiate, so perhaps it’s a nice retirement option too?

There is ample on-street parking and friendly neighbours. It took me 15 minutes to stroll into the city centre, or, if you prefer, the local bus into town, the 203, runs regularly.

The house, and those around it, have kept their traditional, quaint look, while modernising inside.

So, you get convenience, a modern interior, ample parking and hopefully a manageable monthly mortgage for €150,000. What’s not to like?

2. Bawnmore, near Macroom, €295,000

Our next property is as pretty as a picture - hats off to the current owners of this beautiful country pile.

Bawnmore is a three-bedroom and two-bathroom home on the outskirts of Macroom town.

The owners have kept its farmhouse charm, with a lovely gravel drive, traditional sheds, old stone surrounds, established trees, traditional farmhouse kitchen, door latches and solid classic furniture, while adding modern and fresh ideas, making the home very contemporary.

Muted tones in the bedrooms and the use of eclectic furniture add grandeur and a touch of warmth to this inviting home. It also has an impressive BER of C3.

It took only eight minutes to drive from the front door to the centre of Macroom town.

The new bypass will bring you into the city from Macroom in 20 minutes or so, while there is a primary school in Muinefliuch, 3km away from the house.

Even though this is a rural retreat, there are several houses in the area so you have a community nearby.

3. 1, Roman Walk, Dominick Street, Cork city, €165,000

A city centre two-bed property at a very reasonable price.

This has had a makeover and is ready for the next owner to walk through the door and drop their bag!

Under the watchful eye of Shandon, this little house is neatly tucked away out of the hustle and bustle of the city, in a traditional lane from yesteryear. For me, it is the perfect find for the single first-time buyer eager to get on the property ladder without the financial outlay of a full refurbishment.

This historic area of our city is only a stroll away from the centre of town, with every convenience on offer.

Whether working in the city and hoping to enjoy the social life that entails, or wishing to stay in your locality at a reasonable price, this house is perfect for many.

As for parking? On-street parking requires a permit but the estate agent assures me the property owner will have no issue in getting one.

4. 25, Barrack View, Skibbereen, €180,000

A three-bedroom, one-bathroom terraced house. From the outside, it doesn’t look that modern, but when you step through the door you see the work that has gone into making this a beautiful contemporary home.

All the basics have been upgraded, from windows to floors and doors, so the new owner can walk in ready to start their new adventure.

Skibbereen is a vibrant West Cork treasure filled with artisan food shops, fine restaurants and a wonderful community.

The house is set in an area of mostly owner occupiers in a lovely part of town within walking distance of the centre. A new wet room with warm, inviting colours.

An excellent first-time buyer’s home option, or indeed a retirement retreat for someone downsizing. A patio would be lovely in the back, and parking can be found on the street.
