Wedding of the Week: A Valentine's Day proposal...

A VALENTINE’S Day proposal led to the wedding of this couple.
Abigail Herrick and Renan Nepomuceno live in Cobh. Abigail is from Tralee, Co. Kerry, and Renan is from Natal, Brazil.

Abigail explains how their paths first crossed: “We first met each other at a Munster Christian Camp back when we were about 16. We knew of each other but that was it.

“Years later, I moved to Cork and I started going to Douglas Baptist Church, and lo and behold, he also went there. We became pretty close friends pretty quickly and our feelings just grew from there.”

The proposal took place unexpectedly on Valentine’s Day. Abigail explained that she arrived home to find Renan dressed in a suit, holding a bunch of red roses, candles lit, music playing and her favourite dinner on the table.

Abigail said: “He was so calm that I thought it was just a Valentine’s surprise. As soon as dinner was over he stands up and gets down on one knee and proposes. Will never forget that moment.”

They hosted their wedding ceremony and the reception all in the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa in Little Island earlier this year. The couple described the hotel as “amazing”.

The bride’s Mori Lee dress was from Vows Bridal. Hair was by Rosa O: Hair and Makeup Artist. Renan’s suit and the groomsmen’s suits were from Suits Select in Tralee.
Her sister, Leah Herrick, was Maid of Honour and her three best friends, Catherina McClintock, Amy Whiting and Sarah Hamilton Foott, were bridesmaids. Renan had his best friend Alan Deane as his Best Man and he had his two brothers-in-law Shane Deane and Eloi Anchetta and Abigail’s brother Sean Herrick as his groomsmen.

Renan’s brother-in-law, Shane Deane, guided the ceremony and Abigail’s dad, John Herrick, was the officiant of the wedding.

“It was absolutely so special to have my dad marry us,” said Abigail.
Flowers were by a very close friend, Marie Coffey of The Perfect Bouquet., while Abigail’s mom made the cake. Their friends played the music for the ceremony, another friend made their welcome sign and cake stand.
“So many other people were involved during the planning and on the day. It just made the day so much more special to us, knowing that our friends and family were included and helped us out so much.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better day. We felt so loved and blessed, having all the people that we love be witness to our commitment to one another.”
