FOLLOWING on from the I Wish showcase 10th anniversary event and reflecting on how far they have come, I Wish has evolved in a way they never imagined, to date they have engaged with more than 63,000 girls and turned their heads towards STEM.
They had a dream to deliver change by positively influencing the next generation of young women to increase female participation in STEM.
Ahead of International Women’s Day on Friday and as a further extension to the programme I Wish has launched the inaugural I Wish podcast series in association with Go Do You, featuring leading STEM supporters such as Anne O’Leary, head of Meta; Portia Healy O’Connor, CEO of Xelda; Harry Goddard, CEO of Deloitte; Dr Norah Patten, Aeronautical Engineer; Furkan Karayel, CEO of Diversein, and Ciara Judge, former BTYSE winner and researcher in infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene.
This further amplifies the impact and importance of I Wish and a chance to celebrate these STEM leaders from diverse backgrounds and challenge existing stereotypes.
Speaking on her podcast Anne O’Leary, head of Meta said: “We have spent more than 16 billion in the last few years in investing in people, in technology, and in infrastructure to ensure that AI is rolled out responsibly so that we can seek the benefits of it as a society and not get left behind”
During Ciara Judge’s episode, she talks about the importance of STEM: “There’s no better time to get into STEM, it is so exciting. STEM permeates every aspect of our society even if you’re not a researcher or a programmer. You know you could be working in environmental activism and still need knowledge in environmental biology so I think I would just basically encourage girls to don’t be deterred by the few obstacles that remain because those are disappearing by the day”
Amy Jane Keating, Go Do You founder, added: “I am thrilled to be the official podcast partner with I Wish. My podcast Go Do You is all about inspiring people to not give up on their dreams to follow their journey, whatever that might be, however big it may seem and just tell them to keep going no matter what obstacles they come across, it is so important. There is a confidence gap with girls pursuing careers in STEM and I Wish is making a difference to bridge that confidence gap.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day this week this is our commitment to reflect on the theme of Inspire Inclusion creating a world where all women are empowered, valued, and included.”
