Cork artists shortlisted for AIB portrait prizes

Two Cork artists have been shortlisted for the AIB Portrait Prize and AIB Young Portrait Prize 2026.

The shortlist for the annual exhibition, hosted by the National Gallery of Ireland, includes paintings, video, pastel, mixed media, and photography by artists across the country.

The winner of the AIB Portrait Prize will receive €15,000 and be commissioned to create a work for the National Portrait Collection, for which they will be awarded a further €5,000.

Two additional awards of €1,500 will be given to highly commended works.

Rowan Williams Huber, an artist from Kinsale, has been shortlisted in this category — alongside 25 others — for his photograph Rico.

Category winners in the AIB Young Portrait Prize will get an art box and cash prize, with the overall winner receiving an arts supply box and €500. Aoife Newman, aged 17, from Carrigtwohill, has been named in this category for her artwork Come Out, We’re at the Curb.

The portraits will be at the National Gallery of Ireland from November 14 to March 14.
