Shelbourne part ways with Joey O'Brien

Shelbourne have sacked head coach Joey O'Brien, three days after their 3-0 Premier Division defeat to Bohemians.

The former assistant stepped into the top position after Damien Duff left Tolka Park last summer, but they are currently fifth in the table after a poor start to the season.

O'Brien has been part of the club since 2021.

A fourth-place finish in 2023 was followed by their historic league title win.

Last season, the Crumlin native led Shels to the group stage of European football for the first time and secured European qualification for this term.

Under-20s boss Lorcan Fitzgerald is taking interim charge of the team until the process to appoint a new first-team Head Coach is concluded.

Shelbourne take on Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds this Saturday.
