Rugby World Cup: Ireland drawn with Scotland, Uruguay and Portugal

Ireland have been drawn alongside Scotland, Uruguay and Portugal in the pool stage draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

It is the third World Cup in a row Ireland have been drawn against the Scots in the pool phase.

Hosts Australia have been pitted against New Zealand in Pool A, while defending champions South Africa are in Pool B along with Italy, Georgia and Romania.

The Australia vs New Zealand draw is undoubtedly the standout matchup to come from the draw.

Pool A: New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Hong Kong-China
Pool B: South Africa, Italy, Georgia, Romania
Pool C: Argentina, Fiji, Spain, Canada
Pool D: Ireland, Scotland, Uruguay, Portugal
Pool E: France, Japan, USA, Samoa
Pool F: England, Wales, Tonga, Zimbabwe

Ireland lost to Scotland in the 1991 World Cup, but won in 2019 and the most recent tournament in France in 2023.

It will be the first Test match between Ireland and Uruguay. Ireland played Portugal for the first time in a Test during the summer, a record 106-7 win in Lisbon.
