Irish MMA fighter Ian Machado Garry has taken a step closer to earning himself a title shot in the welterweight division with a win over Belal Muhammed.

The Dublin fighter won via decision in Qatar, which will put him in contention to challenge Islam Makhachev for the title at 170 pounds.

Machado Garry was able to keep his distance and stop the wrestling of the former champion Muhammed.

It is unclear if the win will be enough to be next in line to face Makhachev, who he called out in his post fight interview.

Both Michael Morales and Carlos Partes had knockout wins last weekend at UFC 322, in what is a very interesting time for the welterweight division.

In the main event, Arman Tsarukyan submitted Dan Hooker in the lightweight division.
