Katie Taylor is set to take a spell away from boxing to 'attend to personal matters', according to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.

The undisputed super-lightweight world champion was last in action in July, when she defeated Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden to complete the trilogy.

In the victory, Taylor retained the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, and The Ring titles.

With Taylor away from the sport for a period, she will now be recognised as 'Champion in Recess'.

A ‘Champion in Recess’ is a special recognition granted by the WBC to boxers who have had an outstanding career and achieved elite status in the sport.

This allows other fighters compete for the belt, while granting the Wicklow boxer a special status and the possibility of returning to fight for the belt in the future.

Sandy Ryan will take Taylor's place for a bout with Chantelle Cameron for the vacant WBC belt.

Cameron is the only boxer to defeat Taylor in her professional career, with victory in the 3 Arena in May 2023.

Taylor won the rematch between the pair in Dublin in November of that year. Cameron has pushed for a trilogy, with calls for Taylor to fight in Croke Park continuing to grow.
