The Irish mixed relay team have missed out on a place in the final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Jack Raftery, Sophie Becker, Conor Kelly and Sharlene Mawdsley were sixth in their race on Saturday morning and failed to advance from their heat.

Mawdsley said the European champions had an "off day" and they "made mistakes" across the race.

Meanwhile, Mullingar's Oisin Lane finished 28th in the 35-kilometre race walk at his maiden World Championships.
