Joy “radiated” from Jamey Carney, her funeral mass in Co Kerry heard.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation after the mother-of-one was found dead at her home in Killarney on July 7th.

Wednesday’s service at St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney, began with a rendition of the hymn I Watch The Sunrise, and symbols of Ms Carney’s life were presented by her friends and family.

They included photos of her daughter and pet dog Penny. Parish priest Fr Kieran O’Brien described the pictures as “very significant to Jamey, significant now to you, her family”.

He said “we all know the relationship” mother and daughter had, describing her child as “the light of her life”.

A cowboy hat, passports and a sunflower represented her love of country music, travel and nature.

A statue of an angel was included because: “That is what she was to you, her family and friends.”

Carney, who was in her 40s, would be remembered for the joy that radiated from her, Fr O’Brien said, describing her as “adventurous” and “determined”.

He told her loved ones they would remember her as “the ray of sunshine that she has brought into your lives”.

The “close community” of Killarney had “rallied around them”, he said, adding that friends, neighbours, visitors on holidays, and “people even who do not know you” had offered support.

Condolences had come in from “all over the country”, he added.

Addressing Carney’s daughter, Fr O’Brien said: “Her real love in life was you.”

He said how Ms Carney described moving to Ireland from her home in Westchester, New York, five years ago as “the best decision of her life” and how her family were “happy for her” that she and her daughter “had found a place that they call home”.

A private cremation is set to take place after the mass.

Last week, gardaí announced they were “satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday”, prior to Carney’s body being discovered and reported to police.

Investigators said they are now working with international law enforcement partners.
