Tributes have been paid to a well-known Waterford businessman who lost his life in a traffic collision on Monday.

Danny Cunningham (66) was killed in a crash in Kilmeaden, Co Waterford on Monday, July 6th.

Cunningham died after the two-car collision on the R680 at Adamstown shortly before 2pm .

He is well-known in business circles in Waterford having worked for Enterprise Ireland and also in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

His family also run the family-owned Fresh Food Hall on Michael Street in Waterford city centre, which first opened its doors in 1988.

Among those to pay tribute were the Irish Business Network in Riyadh who said ‘’ The Irish Business Network - KSA, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our good friend and colleague, Danny Cunningham. Many of us had the honor of working with Danny for years in the Middle East, and he was always a gentleman and a wonderful colleague. We would like to extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilís’’

Cunningham is survived by his brothers David and Stafford, sisters Trish and Ismay, brother-in-law Cormac, sisters-in-law Elaine, nephews Ross, Loui and Bryan, nieces Sarah, Sally, Emma and Tara, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Cunningham’s funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, on Saturday, July 11th, at 12pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage from the R680 at Adamstown between 1pm and 2pm on Monday, to contact Tramore Garda Station.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
