Motorcyclist (52) killed in Kildare crash named locally

A motorcyclist who died following a single-vehicle crash in Co Kildare has been named locally.
Father of two Seamus ‘Seamie’ McGivern (52) from Leixlip, County Kildare, lost his life in the fatal collision on Saturday morning, July 4th at Killick, Kilcock. The collision involved a motorcycle and occurred at approximately 10.45am.
Locals said Mr McGivern was well known in Leixlip and worked for several years in the River Forest Hotel in the town. One neighbour described him as ‘’Always had a smile, a joke and a laugh any and every time we met. A gent’’.
He is survived by his wife Audrey, children Alex and Joe, siblings Anne, Julie and Cormac, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many good friends. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
In a statement, Gardaí said Mr Givern was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His body was conveyed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The coroner has been notified. The road was closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Killick, Kilcock, Co Kildare this morning between 10.30am and 11am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Mr McGivern’s death was one of three road fatalities which occurred in the country this weekend following fatalities in Cork and Donegal. There have been 91 road fatalities in Ireland so far in 2026, which is 9 more than the same period last year.
